In his new book Dawn’s Early Light: Taking Back Washington, Kevin Roberts says that having children will soon become an expectation in the U.S. – not a choice.
Kevin Roberts is a member of the Council for National Policy (the GOP’s Christian nationalist shadow network), the president of the Heritage Foundation, and the director of Project 2025.
If you were one of the Christian fundamentalists controlling the GOP, how would you achieve that goal?
By making contraception and abortion services as difficult to access as possible – and they’re not waiting for Trump’s inauguration.
As the 119th Congress opened on January 3rd, Rep. Andy Biggs introduced House Resolution 7 – titled “Recognizing the importance of access to comprehensive, high-quality, life-affirming medical care for women of all ages.”
Its title sounds supportive of women’s healthcare, but the phrase “life-affirming medical care” is a red flag. This seemingly benign resolution is actually a stealth attack on reproductive rights.
Let me be clear: House Resolution 7 is not what it seems.
It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing designed to pave the way to limit abortion access based on ideology alone.
H.Res.7 states that women’s healthcare should “address the needs of men, families, and communities.”
But who gets to decide what those needs are? A woman’s husband? Her father? Or, in tragic cases, even her rapist? This opens the door to stripping away a woman’s autonomy over her own body and healthcare decisions.
Consider this chilling scenario: J.D. Vance has suggested it’s grandparents’ responsibility to provide free childcare to parents. Under this bill, if a grandmother offers to raise a child, could that be used to deny a woman’s right to terminate her pregnancy? The implications are terrifying.
It gets worse. Imagine a town council deciding their community needs more workers. Could they use this bill to ban abortions in their town, even in states where it’s legal? This is the slippery slope we’re facing.
With Trump returning to office in three days, H.Res.7 is just the beginning. We’re bracing for a tsunami of legislation aimed at erasing women’s healthcare rights across the entire country.
Don’t be fooled by neutral-sounding phrases like “life-affirming” or seemingly supportive names like the MOMS Act. These are calculated attempts to chip away at our reproductive rights, masquerading as healthcare support or financial aid for parents.
This resolution is part of a larger, insidious strategy to control women’s bodies and limit their ability to make personal healthcare decisions. The time to fight back is NOW, before it’s too late.
We’re rolling out digital ads and a new letter-writing campaign this week to warn Americans about this bill and put pressure on Congress to vote against it, but our success depends on you!
We want every American to know when they’re being lied to by Congress, so dangerous policies like this one can’t sneak quietly to Donald Trump’s desk.
If Republicans want to shred our rights, they’ll have to weigh their re-election chances with every vote.
