My name is Tim, and I started Deprogram America this year with some colleagues at a small, grassroots political consulting firm.
None of us planned on becoming involved in politics until Trump was elected in 2016. That election activated us, total strangers at the time, and all these years later we’re here – fighting the good fight together.
What happened two weeks ago had the opposite effect on me.
When Donald Trump won, that fight, flight, or freeze response from 2016 came back. But this time, I froze. I was in shock and disbelief.
I was in denial – the first stage of grief. I needed time to grieve the future we fought for, that I was so sure we’d have: a future where our country was safe from Donald Trump, and we could get to work exposing the extremist billionaire networks behind him.
We thought we had four years to prevent Project 2025, to shut down the Council for National Policy, and to move Congress to fight back against the Christian Nationalist takeover of our government.
We were wrong. Now that the shock has settled and the fog has cleared, I’m writing to tell you what we’re going to do about it.
Deprogram America is still committed to educating Americans about the Council for National Policy and other Christian Nationalist groups that own the GOP, so we can organize against the real threat to our freedoms.
Americans just made that a lot more difficult, but that doesn’t change the importance of our work. If anything, it makes our mission an urgent one.
This organization exists to use the corrupt political fundraising system to cut through the bullshit and tell people the TRUTH about what’s happening here, and that’s what we’re going to do.
So here’s the truth: Donald Trump is not eligible to be president under the 14th Amendment, and yet he will be.
His cabinet nominations thus far include Project 2025 authors, Christian nationalists, white supremacists, Russian influence actors, and even people tied to QAnon.
They know that our top law enforcement agencies would identify many of them as threats to national security, so they’re bypassing FBI background checks.
In every case so far where Congress could prevent one of Trump’s plans, the lawyers behind Project 2025 have provided alternate legal routes to attempt to bypass Congress, too.
Our institutions will be left without oxygen, American democracy will be on its deathbed, and no one can find a goddamn ventilator.
If you aren’t worried, you aren’t seeing things clearly enough – but neither is most of the country. They will soon.
Through our own efforts and our increased assistance with partner projects like Trump File, we’re going to do all we can to make sure of it.
We are watching the buildup to an unprecedented assault on our government, society, and people. Behaving as though it’s normal or unpreventable only further normalizes it.
